Our St. Louis medical spa offers microneedling, an innovative cosmetic treatment that renews the appearance and texture of your skin without the downtime associated with more invasive rejuvenation techniques. Medical microneedling with the MDPen system creates results that exceed what you can achieve with at-home dermarollers treatments because the procedure penetrates deeper into the skin.
If you’re concerned about acne scars, wrinkles, or other sun-damaged skin, microneedling, or collagen induction therapy (CIT), performed at our St. Louis med spa can produce smoother, younger-looking skin.

Why Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that can reducing acne scarring, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, among other concerns. Patients who want rejuvenated skin without undergoing more invasive or aggressive treatments, such as [link pid=103]Thermage®[/link], can benefit from microneedling at our medical spa.
It’s also called collagen induction therapy because the treatment actually creates tiny, controlled injuries that then trigger the body’s natural healing response, which creates new collagen. Collagen is one of the essential elements of smooth, youthful-looking skin. It breaks down as we age, but microneedling is a simple way to stimulate new collagen growth.
Microneedling can treat the face, neck, and décolletage.
Microneedling FAQ
Is microneedling safe? Yes, microneedling is a popular, common treatment that can be performed on all skin colors and types. It is sometimes preferred over laser treatments because microneedling doesn’t pose any risk of burning the skin. A microneedling treatment punctures the skin using tiny needles that penetrate to a carefully controlled depth. Our sterile environment virtually eliminates the risk of skin infection.
Can I get the same results with at-home microneedling? Microneedling performed at medical specialty practice, such as our St. Louis [link pid=27]med spa[/link], gets more dramatic results because the tiny needles used during the treatment penetrate deeper into the skin than the devices sold for home use. The dermarollers designed to be used at home can help maintain the collagen stimulation therapy that we jump-start at the office. They typically have short, fine needles (0.2 millimeters compared to 2.75 millimeters with the MDPen) and can be used to reduce the size of your pores and minimize acne outbreaks.
How many treatment sessions are needed? That depends on your skin’s condition and the desired aesthetic results. We may recommend 3 to 4 treatments for mild to moderate acne scarring, but deeper scars may require more than 5 treatments. The procedures are scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart to ensure the micro-injuries are completely healed before the next treatment.
When will I see results? The results following a microneedling treatment gradually appear over 2 to 3 weeks. As the body’s healing process continues to produce new collagen, you may see improvement for up to 6 months after the procedure.
Is there downtime? You do not need to take time off work or other normal activities following a microneedling treatment. Redness in the treatment area is a common side effect that may take anywhere from 24 hours to a few days to resolve. If that’s a concern, you may want to remain home as the treatment site heals.

Your Treatment Experience
A microneedling treatment begins with your provider applying a topical anesthetic to help you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. Depending on the treatment area and the skin condition being addressed, a treatment can last between 15 and 30 minutes. The device is placed gently against your skin and glides across the treatment area. The action is repeated until the procedure is complete.
The MDPen rapidly creates a pattern of micro-channels in the treatment area, increasing the production of collagen and elastin to leave the skin smoother and refreshed. These tiny channels also enhance the skin’s ability to absorb medical-grade topical products, such as anti-aging serums and skin lighteners, when applied during or immediately after the treatment.
