Chemical Peels

One of the simplest ways to improve your skin is with chemical peels. At our St. Louis med spa, we offer a number of customizable chemical peels to control blemishes, reduce irregular pigmentation, and fade fine lines. Chemical peels are often used as part of a holistic treatment program that may include additional procedures such as microdermabrasion for accelerated results.

Why Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are a relatively affordable option for skin enhancement that can be used to correct a number of unwanted skin conditions. The amount of downtime required varies on the depth of the peel, but usually side effects are very mild and don’t interfere with your normal activities. Our St. Louis patients choose chemical peels as part of their ongoing skin maintenance routine to keep their skin glowing and youthful.

Chemical Peels FAQ

How do chemical peels work? Chemical peels use different active ingredients to chemically exfoliate the outer layers of the skin. This causes more rapid skin cell turnover and brings fresh cells to the surface for brighter, smoother skin. Some peels formulated for acne-prone skin also help to destroy acne bacteria, resulting in clearer skin. If you want to avoid applying chemicals to your skin, [link pid=”4081″]DiamondGlow™[/link] treatments use water and vacuum suction to exfoliate the skin and unclog pores, along with infusing the skin with powerful serums in a customized procedure.

What can chemical peels treat? Chemical peels are suitable for a wide range of skin problems. They are often recommended for dull, dehydrated, or stressed skin that lacks luster and radiance. Chemical peels are also intended to reduce age-related symptoms such as lines and age spots.

What types of chemical peels do you offer? We offer a variety of peels to provide each patient with a customized treatment for his or her skin. Patients can choose from light, medium or deep peels that use active ingredients such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, alphahydroxy acids, retinoic acid, and more. Your skin will be evaluated during your consultation, and our medical aesthetician will make the appropriate recommendation based on your goals for treatment and your skin type.

How many treatments will I need? Although you will see results with just one chemical peel, most people benefit from ongoing treatments on a regular basis. For light or moderate peels, a series of 4 to 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is usually suggested. Deeper peels may need to be repeated only once or twice a year.

Your Treatment Experience

Chemical peels are performed in our state-of-the-art [link pid=8]medical spa[/link] by a trained medical aesthetician. Your skin is first thoroughly cleansed to remove any dirt or makeup. Another procedure such as [link pid=111]microdermabrasion[/link] may also be used before your chemical peel to enhance absorption of the peel. The medical aesthetician will apply the chemical peel layer by layer and then leave the solution on your skin for a predetermined amount of time. In some cases, the peel may be left on the skin for several hours, but you are free to return home once the peel is applied.

Depending on the strength of the peel, you may notice some side effects. Some redness or pinkness is common for a few hours after treatment, and your skin may flake or peel in about 2 to 3 days. You will be asked to avoid sun exposure and to protect your skin with an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen when you are outdoors. After about a week, your skin should look clearer and brighter with fewer imperfections.
