What Is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift procedure is used to create a better breast shape and elevate the breasts to a perkier position. During breast lift surgery, your surgeon tightens and repositions the underlying breast tissue and removes sagging or excess skin. Your surgeon may also resize your areolas for a more proportionate appearance.
At St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery, our surgeons offer 4 distinct variations of breast lift surgery that may be right for you based on the degree of lift needed and the amount of skin or fat to be removed. Some women may also choose to undergo [link pid=6]breast augmentation[/link] in conjunction with their breast lift surgeries in order to enhance their breasts’ size as well as shape. Others may want to downsize and may be good candidates for a [link pid=69]breast reduction[/link]. Our surgeons plan a procedure that meets all your needs.

Your Surgery
In our St. Louis practice, breast lift surgery is almost always performed while you are under general anesthesia. Once you are fully anesthetized, the procedure begins with 1 of several incision options:
- Along the top of the areola
- Completely around the areola
- Around the areola and vertically down the bottom of the breast
- Around the areola, vertically down the bottom of the breast, and along the breast crease
- A combination of these patterns
A Variety of Incision Options
Keep in mind that the type of incision that’s appropriate for you generally depends on the scope of your surgery. Patients who require a more significant lift often require a more significant incision. However, our surgeons understand that scarring is a primary concern. During your consultation, your surgeon explains to you which incision may be right for your needs and the special steps you can both take to prevent excessive scarring.
Once the incision is made, your surgeon removes excess skin and tissue, then tightens and reshapes the surrounding tissues. He may also reposition your nipple to a more natural height and reduce the size of your areolas. Once both breasts have been reshaped, your surgeon closes the incisions.

Preparing for a Smooth Recovery
- Arrange for help: You’ll need someone to drive you home and help around the house for a day or 2.
- Prep your home: Stock up on simple meals, take care of errands, and make sure you have books, a tablet, or the TV remote handy.
- Fill your prescriptions: We’ll give you prescriptions to fill at your last appointment before surgery.
Your Recovery
At St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery, we specialize in rapid recovery techniques. Most of our breast lift patients are able to comfortably return to work within 5 days after their procedures.
Our skilled surgical methods produce less trauma to the body, which means that your recuperation will likely be relatively brief and comfortable. However, during this time it’s still important to care for yourself properly. Breast lift patients should still avoid vigorous activities, especially those that require the upper body, for several weeks. This allows the affected tissues to heal properly. During your consultation, you and your surgeon review your projected recuperation so that you have a better understanding of what to expect.
Your Results
By addressing sagging or dropping breasts, a breast lift results in a firmer, tighter, and perkier look. Final results take a few months to develop as swelling decreases and incision lines fade. For most patients, though, the improvement is clear immediately. Many patients say they procedure helps them feel as though their femininity has been restored after years of not feeling as confident as they should.
I am so happy with the results of breast surgery. I can go anywhere and feel amazing. I should have done this a long time ago!”
