Years of sun exposure can take a toll on your skin, particularly in the form of sun spots, redness and overall blotchiness. With an IPL Photofacial treatment from our St. Louis med spa, you can enjoy more evenly toned skin with fewer signs of environmental damage. IPL treatments work on a cellular level to stimulate the skin so it behaves and looks more like young skin.

Why IPL Photofacial?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is an advanced treatment for people who need greater skin correction than can be provided from skincare products alone. This procedure can be used on almost all skin types and helps to minimize the effects of sun damage, including uneven pigmentation and fine lines. Each photorejuvenation treatment is customized to deliver just the right amount of light energy to your skin based on your needs.
IPL Photofacial FAQ
How does IPL Photofacial work? IPL targets damaged skin cells using a range of light waves that pass through the skin and are absorbed. This energy causes molecules of dark pigmentation to scatter, resulting in a lightening effect. Photorejuvenation also encourages skin cells to produce more proteins such as collagen and elastin, which help maintain the skin’s youthful properties.
What can IPL treat? Many of our patients choose IPL treatments to reduce the look of brown spots, redness, rosacea, and broken capillaries on the face, chest and hands. As an added benefit, IPL can also minimize the look of fine lines. If you’re concerned about acne scars, stretch marks, or age-related wrinkles, [link pid=113]microneedling[/link] treatments may also be an option.
What is the difference between IPL and lasers? IPL uses light energy to restore the skin, while lasers use thermal (heat) energy. Individuals who are more concerned with deeper lines and advanced signs of aging may want to consider a laser treatment or a radiofrequency procedure such as [link pid=103]Thermage®[/link].
How many treatments will I need? Your treatment provider will suggest the appropriate number of sessions based on the level of correction needed. Typically, 3 to 5 treatments provide visible results.

Your Treatment Experience
IPL treatments are not uncomfortable for most people and are performed in our luxurious, fully equipped medical spa. You will be provided with special glasses or eye pads to protect your eyes during treatment. Each session takes about 30 minutes or more, depending on the size of the treatment area, and you can return home immediately after.
Your skin may appear slightly red for 2 to 5 days after IPL, but makeup can be used to camouflage any discoloration. You will also notice that your brown spots will appear darker for 3 to 7 days. This is normal and temporary because the dark spots will eventually flake off. Most people find that their skin looks younger, healthier, and more evenly toned in about a week. Additional treatments will provide even more dramatic results.
